Michael Strahan is slowly making his return in front of the camera. However, he’s still not back behind the desk at “Good Morning America.”
The former football player made a surprise appearance as he returned to “Fox NFL Sunday” over the weekend after a two-week hiatus. He joined his co-host, Curt Menefee, for the network’s pregame to honor veterans.
Earlier this month, Menefee previously told viewers that Strahan had the day off. On the Nov. 5 broadcast, he then noted that Strahan was “dealing with a personal family matter” at the time.
Strahan, 51, meanwhile, has been away from “GMA” for even longer. He last was on the ABC morning show alongside co-hosts Robin Roberts, George Stephanopoulos, Lara Spencer and Ginger Zee on Oct. 26.
“Michael Strahan will not be with us this week as he is dealing with some personal family matters,” a network spokesperson said in a statement on Monday, Nov. 6. “We appreciate everyone’s thoughts and concerns.”
Amid his absence, Strahan has been replaced by either “Nightline” co-anchor Juju Chang or “World News Tonight” lead Linsey Davis.
A source told Entertainment Tonight that Strahan is expected to come back to “GMA” this week, but the network has yet to officially announce his return date.
The TV personality joined “GMA” as an anchor in 2016 following his less-than-friendly exit from “Live With Kelly and Michael” opposite Kelly Ripa.
Strahan has yet to address or give details about the personal matter that he is dealing with. He last posted on social media on Oct. 25, when he promoted his other hosting role for “The $100,000 Pyramid.”
