Ex-Mets reliever Trevor May reveals ‘hilarious’ Citi Field Photoshop job: ‘Easter egg’

Former major leaguer and ex-Met reliever Trevor May noticed something askew at Citi Field.

May, who announced his retirement last month, was having a bit of fun on Wednesday when he posted a picture to X of his banner that hung outside the Mets’ home in 2022.

At first glance, there isn’t anything that would indicate that something peculiar was up with the picture, but May clued everyone in.

“This is my banner at Citi in 2022. Look odd?” May wrote. That’s because my face is Photoshopped on to Seth Lugo’s body.”

So what gave away the fact that it was Lugo and not May?

Well, the right-hander explained.

“That’s his Wilson glove, Adidas cleats, and definitely his delivery LOL,” May concluded the post.

After his initial post caught the attention of amused baseball fans online, May took to X again on Wednesday to add some more commentary

“Let me be clear, this is not criticism of anyone,” he wrote. “Whoever was tasked with the job nailed it. I’m glad this exists!”

May wasn’t done there, as he continued to chime in on some of the comments made on his initial post.

“Not sure, but I hope so! It feels like an Easter egg!” May replied to a user on X who asked if editing a player’s head onto another’s body was normal.

One person thought they had the answer to what happened.

“The likely answer is they didn’t have a picture of him that fit the banner and also showed his face. A glove and shoes swap (or literally just blanking out the brands) would have been literally the same amount of work as the face of tho,” posited one user in the replies.

“That was probably it. I think it’s hilarious and I’m glad it happened though,” May responded

May spent two seasons in New York pitching for the Mets in 2021 and 2022.

He made 94 appearances during that time and posted a 4.00 ERA with a 9-3 record.

Over his two years with the Mets, he struck out 113 batters in 87 2/3 innings.

May’s career spanned nine years – six of which were spent in Minnesota and his final season was spent in Oakland – before he announced he was calling it quits in October.

The 34-year-old made the announcement during a Twitch livestream and lambasted Athletics’ owner John Fischer amid the team’s potential move to Las Vegas.

“To the A’s organization and every single person part of it, I love all of you, every single one of you, except for one guy and we all know who that guy is,” May said. “Sell the team, dude. I tried to get a ‘sell’ shirt but it didn’t get here fast enough. Sell it, man. Let someone who actually takes pride in the things they own, own something.

“There’s actually people who give a s–t about the game. Let them do it.”
