‘Rugged’ Ryan Lindgren back skating with Rangers after injury scare

Somehow, someway, Ryan Lindgren was a full participant in the Rangers’ practice on Wednesday in Tarrytown.

The 25-year-old defenseman, who must be made of steel, only needed one optional practice to recover from getting crunched headfirst into the boards by Columbus forward Sean Kuraly on Sunday, which knocked Lindgren out of the game early in the third period.

Down on all fours in clear pain, Lindgren looked destined to miss some time.

Like always, however, the man proves to be an unbreakable machine.

“Really good [to see Lindgren out there],” head coach Peter Laviolette said. “He came in [Tuesday] and got in a little skate on his own and he felt great. So he just joined back into the group today. … He’s definitely a rugged guy. He plays the game hard. It’s just really nice to not have it go down a different road.”

Now that the Lindgren injury scare has passed, the Rangers should only be without two key skaters when they take on the Devils in Newark on Saturday.

Adam Fox is still on long-term injured reserve with a lower-body injury, while Filip Chytil has yet to resume skating due to an upper-body injury that landed him on the injured reserve list.

Goalie Igor Shesterkin, who has been working through an undisclosed issue that has sidelined him the last four games, was a full participant in practice once again. It’s looking more and more likely that the Russian netminder will be good to go Saturday.

Wednesday was also the first practice the Rangers have had without Louis Domingue since injuries befell the team’s goaltending tandem, which also bodes well for Shesterkin’s return. The Rangers assigned Domingue and defenseman Connor Mackey to AHL Hartford on Monday.

Laviolette declined to say if Shesterkin was on pace to play Saturday, noting that the team is taking it day by day.

The Rangers have at least one more off day and one more practice day before they return to game action.

The healing time may be welcome, but the Rangers are rolling and want to keep it going.

“As a Jewish kid from Long Island, a bagel partnership is something I am extremely excited about,” Fox said in a press release. “For as long as I can remember, bagels have been a part of every family gathering. Now playing in New York, I have had the opportunity to explore some of the best food in the world, and yet nothing feels like home quite like and egg and cheese on a bagel.”

The 2021 Norris Trophy-winner will also have his own bagel named after him called “The Foxy,” which will be a sesame bagel topped with fried eggs, lox, cream cheese and tomato. It’ll be available at all Brooklyn Bagel locations starting Nov 16.

The Rangers are scheduled to be off on Thursday before they return to practice Friday. After Saturday’s game, the Rangers will travel to Dallas to play the Stars on Monday and then to Pittsburgh to play the Penguins on Wednesday.
