Miami QB Emory Williams carted off field after ‘significant’ injury in scary moment

Miami quarterback Emory Williams was carted off the field Saturday night with a “significant” arm injury after he took a hit near the sidelines in a 27-20 loss to rival Florida State.

Down by a touchdown and in a fourth-and-2 situation with under three minutes remaining, Williams took the snap and scrambled toward the first-down marker on the far side of the field.

As he reached toward the yard to gain, he appeared to land awkwardly as got the necessary yardage.

Play stopped as he was attended to on the sideline and was eventually carted off the field.

According to ESPN’s Molly McGrath, Williams was given an air cast for his last arm, which would be his non-throwing side.

“I can hear him loudly crying in pain,” McGrath reported from the sideline. “The athletics training staff was looking at his left arm, his left wrist area. They had to cut off his play-call wrist band. … It’s not looking good for Emory Williams.”

Tyler Van Dyke, who was benched before the game, came in relief and got the Hurricanes down to their own 49-yard line before he was picked off on their final offensive play of the game.

The Seminoles closed out the 27-20 win with a kneel-down, but the concern went toward Williams, who reportedly had a “significant” injury toward his arm, reported Bob Ferrante.

“Ultimate sacrifice to get a first down — super proud of him,” head coach Mario Cristobal said, per The Athletic.

“I love that kid, man…sad that we couldn’t play for him. We’re just proud of that kid and everything he brings to the table…we love the heart that he brings,” linebacker Francisco Mauigoa said, according to University of Miami media member Christy Chirinos.

Williams finished the game with eight completions — two of which were touchdowns — and 175 passing yards.
