Deion Sanders’ Colorado botches field goal, gives up game-winner in heartbreaker: ‘Don’t sit well’

That’s a tough way for Deion Sanders and Colorado to drop one.

With a chance to take the lead and potentially win a game over No. 21 Arizona, Colorado missed a field goal — and then lost in the final seconds when the Wildcats nailed a field goal on the other end of the field to win a 34-31 thriller.

“We could have won the darn game. I like that we should have won. I’m tired of we could’ve won,” Deion Sanders said after the game, per the Associated Press. “There ain’t no lose in me. It don’t sit well with me. It don’t rock well with me. It don’t lay down with me. I have no lose in me.”

In what turned into its final possession of the game, Colorado — tied 31-31 at that point — got the ball in great field position at its own 49 yard-line.

While the drive started out with a promising 23-yard completion from quarterback Shedeur Sanders and eventually got to the Arizona 25-yard line, things stalled out and the Buffaloes lined up for a 44-yard field goal.

Alejandro Mata’s kick had plenty of leg but it veered wide right of the upright, and the game stayed tied and gave the Wildcats a perfect opportunity to march down the field, which they did.

What hurt more for the Buffaloes was that Arizona was able to eat up a lot of the game clock, as Colorado not only couldn’t get a stop but also the defense decided not to allow the Wildcats to score a touchdown.

Instead, Arizona held onto the ball and nailed a 24-yard field goal as time expired to take the win in what proved to be a rollercoaster.

It was devastating loss for Colorado, which has now lost four games in a row and sits at 4-6 overall on the season after starting 3-0.

On the positive side, Sanders — the son of Coach Prime — added three scores (two passing and one rushing) while throwing for 262 yards on 22 of 35 passing attempts.

But after getting off to such a hot start, Deion Sanders’ crew has struggled in the back half of the season with a 1-6 record in Pac-12 play.
