Emmy nominees 2023: ‘Succession’ sweeps, ‘Yellowstone’ snubbed — again

And the nominees are…

The 2023 Emmy Award nominations were revealed Wednesday via livestream on the official Emmys website and Facebook page.

“Act Your Age” star Yvette Nicole Brown and Television Academy chair Frank Scherma hosted the nomination reveal.

Brown received an Emmy nod two years ago for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her appearance in “A Black Lady Sketch Show.”

“Succession” scored the most nods, acquiring an eye-popping 27 nominations, while “Ted Lasso,” “The Bear,” “Beef,” “Abbott Elementary” and “The White Lotus” also performed exceptionally well. Kevin Costner and “Yellowstone” were ignored, except in one technical category. HBO/Max received a staggering 127 nominations overall.

Ray Liotta, who died in 2022 of heart failure at 67, got a posthumous nod (for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie, for Apple’s “Black Bird”).

One to rule them all — Brian Cox and HBO’s “Succession” raked in the most Emmy nominations.

HBO led the pack, dominating the Best Drama category with four of the eight nominated shows. However, despite getting a Best Drama nod, “House of the Dragon” was snubbed in all acting categories.

Selena Gomez was also snubbed as a performer in the Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series category for “Only Murders in the Building,” (she got nominated last year as an executive producer), and Sam Claflin got snubbed for the Prime Video series “Daisy Jones & The Six” while his co-stars Riley Keough and Camila Morrone got nominated.

Rihanna received her first Emmy nod in the Outstanding Variety Special (live) category for her Apple Music Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show.

Elton John is now one step closer to EGOT status as his “Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium” is also nominated in the Outstanding Variety Special (live) category. He already has five Grammys, two Oscars and a Tony, and would only be the 19th EGOT in history.

The 75th Emmy Awards take place Sept. 18 in Los Angeles. Viewers can watch on Fox at 8 p.m.

Kenan Thompson hosted the 2022 Emmys. The year prior, Cedric the Entertainer hosted the scaled-down, socially distanced ceremony.

A host for this year’s show has yet to be announced.
