Why ‘Sex and the City’ costume designer Patricia Field returned just to style Kim Cattrall

And just like that, she was back.

Patricia Field, the legendary “Sex and the City” costume designer, discussed returning to the series’ sequel and auctioning off Carrie Bradshaw’s Eiffel Tower bag. It’s for sale until Nov. 19.

The 82-year-old designer rose to fame in the ’90s styling Sarah Jessica Parker and the whole stylish cast of “SATC” while managing her widely popular shop — named after herself – in the Lower East Side.

Fans were disappointed to learn the stylist behind one of television’s most iconic fashionistas wouldn’t be acting as costume designer for “And Just Like That.” However, she did make a quick return to the “Sex and the City” fold, specifically to style Kim Cattrall, who plays Samantha Jones, for the actress’ highly anticipated return.

“It was important for me to do her justice for her long-awaited reappearance,” Field exclusively told The Post.

“I love styling Kim as Samantha. Not only do Kim and I have a long-standing personal relationship and get along great, but we both understand the Samantha character.”

And the assignment of dressing the sassy and sexy character was equally as important to the actress.

Getting Cattrall to reprise her role was no simple task after she famously feuded with her co-stars and rejected multiple offers. And for the star to consider returning, bringing back Field was at the top of her list of demands.

The actress said that it was HBO executive Casey Bloys who personally phoned her up and asked if she would like to come back for the “AJLT” Season 2 finale.

“It’s very interesting to get a call from the head of HBO saying, ‘What can we do?’” Cattrall said on “The View”. “And I went, ‘Hmmm … let me get creative.’”

And what better way to get creative than with costumes? So, Cattrall asked Bloys to allow Field to dress her for her one scene.

“I just thought, ‘If I’m going to come back, I got to come back with that kind of Samantha style,’” she said. “I got to push it. And we did.”

Sadly, it seems that the quick costume cameo may be the only sample of the stylist fans get to see on “AJLT” as she admits that scheduling conflicts prevented her from returning full-time — but don’t worry, her standout styling can still be seen on-screen.

“I was committed to ‘Emily in Paris’ at the time, and could not join the revival, which is why I passed the torch to my longtime colleague and friend Molly Rogers, who worked with me on the original series and both films,” Field told The Post.

The Timmy Woods Eiffel Tower bag ($4,500) made its debut in the first “SATC” movie in 2008, when the fashion-forward protagonist carried it while house hunting with Big, played by Chris Noth, in NYC.

The accessory then made a notable return in the “AJLT” Season 1 finale as the character returned to Paris — where she and late husband Big famously rekindled their romance at the end of the HBO series — to scatter his ashes in epic style.

“It really touched my heart,” Field told The Post.

The bag is currently up for auction as part of Housing Works’ 20th Annual “Fashion For Action” benefit to raise money to support lifesaving services for those impacted by homelessness and HIV/AIDS.
