I grew up with a ‘no pants mom’ is that normal?

Every family has their own little habits, but this week a Tik Tok has viewers deeply divided on a bathroom privacy issue.

Sarah, who has almost 80,000 followers, raised the question: “Is this normal, please let me know?” after she heard that teenaged and even adult kids are walking in on their moms in the bathroom.

Deliberately. To pester them about things.

“Is this normal, please tell me”

In the clip, Sarah says that she saw a video where two teenaged boys “walked in while their mom was on the toilet peeing” – and the mom was filming the video.

“For all the moms out there, just know, it never ends, you never get privacy” the mom happily declares, leaving Sarah incredulous.

A confused 27-year-old posted to TikTok to address adults watching their parents pee.

“None of them had a problem with it, and I’m horrified watching this. I go to the comments and people are like, ‘My adult kids do that too’.”

Sarah asks why people aren’t locking the door, and adds, “Maybe I grew up in a more private household, so that was really weird to me. I would never walk in on one of my parents on the toilet – I’m 27, that feels so weird to me.

“But now I’m question everything.”

“I’ve grown up with a no pants mom”

The viral clip has attracted more than 35 000 highly varied comments.

Many told Sarah the situation was “normal”.

“This is normal in my family. My mom leaves the door wide open and everybody just speaks to her,” said one viewer.

“I’m 31 and I get personally offended at my mom when she locks me out of the bathroom when she’s in there,” joked another.

She was “shocked” to hear that adult children still went into the bathroom while their parents were on the toilet.

And a third agreed, writing, “Definitely normal! If my mom is having a bath and I’m over at her place, you bet I’m going in there to put my feet in the water and talk.”

It’s clear that moms are generally seen as there for us at all times, whether convenient for them or not.

“If I am at her house and she rudely needs to wee while I am in the middle of my 5-hour rant, believe me we both off to the loo,” wrote one (needy) daughter.

Sarah asked her followers if this was normal behavior.

Others had some qualifications.

“My mother? Absolutely yes. My father? No. My brothers never did. But us girls? Absolutely always in there with my mom,” said one.

Another took it further, writing, “It’s sooooo normal I’m convinced that soon you guys are going to make a parent feeding their child weird because everything is weird to you freaks.”

“No pants moms are a real thing”

Some commenters agree with the behavior, while others think it’s strange.

Then there were many viewers who explained that their mothers had a very casual attitude to nudity and privacy.

“It’s a normal thing if you grew up with a no pants mom,” this viewer wrote, and was quickly backed up by many others.

“100% I don’t care if my mom’s on the toilet or in the bath… but also I grew up with a no pants mom so 🤷🏻‍♀️,” said one.

Added another, “No pants mom here! Also called a Winnie the Pooh mom!”

And this person shared how normal it was in their home: “My mom’s nickname is Nancy, Nancy no pants. It’s only a problem when she’s outside raking when the school bus arrives home.”

“I stopped when I was five”

Many viewers were also shocked by the practice:

-“I CAME TO YOUR COMMENTS EXPECTING PEOPLE TO AGREE WITH YOU WHAT IS HAPPENING?”

-“I stopped doing that at like five years old what is wrong with people?”

Then our own Kidspot team shared their mixed experiences:

“I feel like I don’t have a choice in terms of an open-door policy or not. My kids are like weeds, they find a way in regardless. Or they make so much fuss and racket on the other side it’s not worth it anyway,” a mom-of-three said.

“Never had an open-door policy growing up, folks respected my privacy while bathing pretty young, but we weren’t allowed to lock bathroom doors in case there was an accident/someone fell,” a very well-adjusted teammate added.

“I close the door when I’m on the toilet if there’s another adult home – just so I can get a moment to myself. But otherwise, with little kids, it’s pretty much a revolving door,” another mom of three littles shared.
