Davide Renne has died in Milan due to a “sudden illness,” just nine days into his role as Moschino’s new creative director. He was 46.
Aeffe SpA, the parent company of Moschino, confirmed his death in a press release and a statement to The Post.
The Daily Front Row alleged the cause of death was a heart attack; however, the report is unconfirmed.
“There are no words to describe the pain we are experiencing at this dramatic time,” Massimo Ferretti, chairman of Aeffe SpA said in a statement provided to The Post. “Davide joined us only a few days ago, when a sudden illness took him from us too soon. We still can’t believe what happened.”
The former Gucci designer, who spent two decades at the Italian fashion house, was just announced as the Moschino successor of Jeremy Scott and began his new role on Nov. 1.
His first collection with Moschino was slated to show at Milan Fashion Week in February next year, according to CNN.
At the time of his appointment to the coveted role, Renne expressed that he was looking forward to experimenting further while at Moschino, a brand known for its vibrant, playful designs.
“What fashion — Italian fashion especially, and the House of Moschino most of all, can achieve with its enormous power, should be accomplished with a sense of play, of joy. A sense of discovery and experimentation,” he said in a statement last month.
Renne was “working on an ambitious project” ahead of his death, Ferretti revealed, and even for the “short time” he was with the luxe fashion house, Renne was “loved and respected.”
“Today we are left with the responsibility of carrying on what his imagination and creativity had only envisioned,” he said. “Our deepest sympathies go to his family and friends.”
